Please let me know ur email address if you are interested in possibly playing in an alumni game vs the current team (gotta ask the coach), as well as for help with fundraising.
Email me at bd_sports(at)yahoo(dot)com replacing the thing in parentheses with appropriate symbols. BTW has a lot of momentum right now with its baseball team due to the nice result last season, and the number of new youth teams and leagues on the north side of town and special thanks goes to former Kansas State (football) stars Kevin and Aaron Lockett's father for that.. Coach P has agreed to have an "exhibition"game vs the current BTWers so holler if u want to play. Sorry, BTW alumni only...
The announcement on game time will be announced here. Please note the purpose of this game is to first bring all the old boys (OB), er men, back as well as let the alumni meet some of the current players and other past players, second, to raise awareness of the program, and last, for fundraising. Oh yeah, it'll be a lot of fun too, er as long as no one gets hurt on the OB side. I fought Sugar Ray (Robinson) so many times, it's a wonder I don't have diabetes. -- Jake LaMotta |

Spring Alumni Baseball Game 2006
If you played "rounders" at BTW and wanna play in the above, kindly advise as follows: email me at bd_sports(at)yahoo(dot)com replacing the thing in parentheses with appropriate symbols or you can leave a private message for me here or post a message in this forum! Details: April 22 (Sat.) at BTW's diamond I. Alumni vs. Alumni Game - at 11 am approximately (perhaps odd-number-graduation year vs. even-number graduation year) II. Alumni vs. Varsity - 2~3 pm We're not sure which alumni players are gonna play the varsity, the ones still left standing most likely of the winner or game I. Everyone is invited to attend, we had a good turn out of fans in Octb. We're trying round up as many baseball alumni as possible, even if you don't want to play. The furthest we can go back w/ representation is 1966: Michael Reed. Then 1977. There are huge gaps between 1981~1990, no one around repping those classes. Where ya at? Testing your memory powers. You confirmed the ones I thought I knew, but is that Mike Jones (1981)?

Yup, that's Dr. Jones (DVM) of 81. Are you class of 81, if so you coming back for the hoedown this summer?
I didn't know you moved to Singapore. I love that place! Not as much as Thailand but they got some good grubcakes there and the people are much nicer than in Hong Kong.... I fought Sugar Ray (Robinson) so many times, it's a wonder I don't have diabetes. -- Jake LaMotta |

Wow, I wouldn't have recognized him! No, I'm class of 1982, but I may have to drop in and say hello. I have my own little player in training...he's in coach-pitch this year and loves baseball. We moved here in Aug 2004 and love it. We lived here in 1990-91 too. Love the food, but you're right, Thailand is better. At least for visiting. Haven't been to HK yet. We've been to Thailand (many times), Malaysia (it's 2 minutes from my house and very drivable), Beijing, Australia and going to Vietnam in the spring. That's just this time around. Before I visited all the countries in the Asia-Pacific region except for Vietnam which wasn't open to US citizens at the time. Can't wait to take my kids to some of these places!

Sad news...
Not sure if you have heard the recent story about the shooting at a party in Stillwater but the person who died from that incident is Paul Shanor, who played baseball at Booker T. and was a student at OU. I got word of Paul's passing a while back but didn't put it together that it was he who was sadly killed in this crazed incident until Saturday. May Paul rest in peace and may God grant his family comfort... OU student killed at Stillwater party Staff and Wire Reports 01/16/2006 STILLWATER -- A college student was killed and three others were injured when shots were fired into a crowd at an off-campus party early Sunday, and a suspect was arrested in Oklahoma City later in the day. The four victims were shot by a man who shot indiscriminately into a crowd in a room at the Holiday Inn, 2515 W. Sixth St., about 3:10 a.m. Sunday, police said. Stillwater Police Communications Officer Chris Howell confirmed Sunday evening that one of the shooting victims had died. PAUL SHANOR, 21, a University of Oklahoma student, was shot in the chest and later died at a Stillwater hospital. Legaria R. Thomas, a 19-year-old Oklahoma State University student, was shot in the face and was flown in critical condition to the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, police reported. Another partygoer, whose identity had not been released by Sunday evening, was shot in the back and was also flown to the OU Medical Center. Curtis L. Canady, a 22-year-old Langston University student, was shot in the hand. He was treated at the Stillwater Medical Center and released, police reported. Police said the shooter and a companion tried to crash the private party, which was hosted by an OSU student. When the men were denied entry, one of them pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the partygoers. Police identified a suspect as Karras Mitchell Harrison, 21, of Oklahoma City. Howell said on Sunday afternoon that a man who was believed to be Harrison had been taken into custody in Oklahoma City. Stillwater detectives were on their way there to interview him that evening and would confirm whether he was indeed Harrison, Howell said. Second man jailed in shooting
PATTI WEAVER World Correspondent 01/17/2006 A second Oklahoma City man is arrested in the killing of an OU student at a party near the OSU campus. STILLWATER -- A second Oklahoma City man has been arrested in a weekend shooting at a party near the OSU campus that killed one University of Oklahoma student and wounded three other Oklahoma college students, police said Monday. Oklahoma City police arrested Louis J. Jones, 21, on Monday afternoon on complaints of accessory to murder and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction, Stillwater Police Detective Mike Metcalf said. Jones, an ex-convict who was due to report to prison this Friday, is alleged to have provided the .45-caliber handgun that was used in the fatal shooting. The altercation began just after 3 a.m. Sunday at the Holiday Inn on West Sixth Street, Metcalf said. Karras Mitchell Harrison, 21, the alleged gunman, was arrested on a Payne County murder complaint about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Oklahoma City, Metcalf said. Both suspects, neither of whom is an Oklahoma State University student, were being held in the Oklahoma County Jail pending their return to Payne County, where they were expected to be charged this week, Metcalf said. Harrison was arrested three months ago at Langston University, where he tried to get into a private campus event, an affidavit by Langston University Police Officer Michael Galbraith said. Harrison was charged with public intoxication and obstructing an officer in relation to that Oct. 7 incident, Logan County court records show. In the fatal shooting at the Stillwater hotel, Harrison and Jones had gone to the party "to celebrate before Jones went to prison" for violating probation on a burglary conviction out of Oklahoma County, Metcalf said. He said an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member had rented the hotel's Iba Suite for an after-party for invited guests only following a Saturday night fraternity event in the Student Union. Forty to 60 people, many gathered in the main lobby by the hotel pool, were at the party, where "trash can punch" was served, Metcalf said. After Harrison and Jones showed up uninvited, he said, they were asked to leave, and a heated argument ensued. Jones allegedly handed a gun to Harrison, who "was probably one to two feet in the doorway when he fired the first shot," Metcalf said. "They kept slamming the door on him, trying to get him to drop the gun," he said, but Harrison allegedly kept firing with his arm stuck in the door. PAUL SHANOR, 21, an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member from OU, was shot in the chest and died during surgery Sunday afternoon at the Stillwater Medical Center, Metcalf said. Legaria R. Thomas, 19, an OSU student, was shot in the face, Metcalf said. She was in critical but stable condition Monday evening at the OU Medical Center, officials said. Craig Adonte Owens, 22, an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity member from Langston University, was shot once in the back and once in the buttocks, police said. He reportedly was in good condition Monday evening at the OU Medical Center. Curtis L. Canady, 22, a Langston University student who also is believed to be a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, was struck in the hand by a bullet that grazed his cheek, Metcalf said. He reportedly was treated at and released from Stillwater Medical Center on Sunday. Stillwater Police Chief Norman McNickle said the "level of violence has escalated through the years" at after-parties in the community following campus events. "We've been very concerned about these issues for some time," he said. Metcalf said Sunday's shooting "is the result of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity party at the Student Union. It flows out here" into the community," he said. "It's progressively worse. Now a student is dead as a result of it." Are you planning a summer alumni game so those of us "out-of-towners" can come watch??

Tina,
No, that's impossible. The kids play summer leagues and it's hard enough to get the alums to get away from their own kids' sporting activities and what-not. We're moving the baseball alumni game to the fall as this seems to be a better time to have it, since not everyone's son plays football (or daughter plays softball or whatever) and thus the alums would have a better chance to make it to the game. This year's game is set for Oct. 14 (Saturday), homecoming is that weekend and the Hornets play Bartlesville the night before, Oct. 13, of course, at SE Williams Stadium. More details coming soon! =========== To any BTW baseball alumni: Kindly advise your contact details, email is best, I am no longer living in the US so don't know who's gonna be calling the guys w/out email: bd_sports at yahoo dot com. Replace at w/ @ and dot with . please. YOU are welcome, we want you to show up and be a part of the BTW Baseball program again, no matter how old or young, ugly or handsome, stupid or smart, rich or poor, LOL, it's allllllll good yo. Coaches Potocnik, Wheeler, et al want to bring the old boys back to the program to support the kids. So even if you don't want to play, you are more than welcome to sit in the dugout during the alumni games and shoot the breeze and rehash how great you were back in the day. Promise, it's a good time and you will laugh....at least if I'm there. I fought Sugar Ray (Robinson) so many times, it's a wonder I don't have diabetes. -- Jake LaMotta |
