Joey Sanders (I got to get him on here b/c he probably remember more about it than I do) and I, Herbert Collins, Chris Maxie, Andy "Farmer" Emory (who else was in there?), et al, would come out of there holding our stomachs from laughing almost every day. We didn't have any honeys (no girls) which was the only drawback but if there were some of us would have probably gotten beaten up or thrown in jail.
One of the first things I remember is Coach Mims tellnig Andy Emory he looks like a farmer and from there on out his nickname was Farmer, even though he had long hair, a beard if I remember correctly, and was a cool dude. Maybe he was wearing overalls the first day or something... He was always on somebody. ----------------------------- No wonder you`re all mixed up. Bobby,
You are going to have to elaborate about the side splitting fun times in coach Mims homeroom. What kind of stuff? Do tell. |

Bobby, where was Mims' homeroom? In the gym?
I guess I never realized he'd have a homeroom. The man was a constant source of crack-ups! He could also kick a little ass and motivate when necessary. Um, didn't the students all continue to have the same homeroom class every year. I can't remember my homeroom class [ picks up walking cane and shuffles off scratching head in senile confusion. ] |

quote:Yep, in the gym, I wish I could remember everything that went on in there but it's been too many years, I gotta get Mr. Sanders on here, he'll recall. Dang, Dan, that's pretty bad, not even being able to remember your homeroom! ----------------------------- No wonder you`re all mixed up. I recently saw a picture of Coach Firch online. [ I'll dig it up again soon. ]
Man, Mims and Firch were a hilarious duo! |

Mims and Furch were a duo alright.

Mims is back around Tulsa these days (actually has been for some years now). I am sure that Furch or Coach Ed Lacy (Class of 50something, more likely 40something) knows where he is and how to contact him. I think Mims is in the Class of '65 or '66, so he might even be on the web site.

Never had coach Mims' class...but I can give some "history" on him.
Long ago in the early '70s, Coach Mims took what I think was his first teaching job at Whitney Jr. High. ALL the girls thought he was sooooo cool -- he was young and very hip with his plaid bell bottoms (oh, yeah, you get the picture) We both end up at Booker T -- he's faculty and I'm a student. This year, I dropped my daughter off at school (Charles Page, Sand Springs) She's late, and tells me about getting sent to the office by MISTER Mims. Hmmm....I ask her a few questions, pull out the year books and guess who's at Charles Page -- Coach Mims! We have a couple of football players that work for us and they, along with my daughter, got a laugh at some of his earlier pictures! Guess now that I'm a parent and he's an assistant principal, I ought to be able to speak to him without stuttering and drooling! |
